A friend gave me a beer to try from The Round Barn Brewery. The beer is their Oak - Aged IPA. The following is from their website about the beer.

Oak Aged IPA

Our version of an American Pale Ale. First taste of this IPA and you immediately pick up light oak and hop bitterness which gives this beer a nice balanced finish. Oak IPA pairs well with spicy foods or a nice seafood dish.

1st problem is an American Pale Ale and an IPA (Imperial Pale Ale) are two different beers.  An IPA is the big brother of the pale ale, meaning they are bigger in hops, and alcohol. So the line in their description that said "our version of an American pale ale didn't leave me to positive about sampling this one.

Now I don't know how well the beer was kept before it got to me so the sample I have might be different from your experience. The Oak Age IPA is definitely is more a pale ale than an IPA. The oak flavor is very understated specially since it is so prominent in the name of the beer. The fist thing I get is a bunch of citrus flavor and then a little mellowness that I'm guessing is from the oak. the citrus grapefruit masks the sweet maltyness that you would see in in an IPA and i think the body is a little thin. I would give the beer a 28 or 29 out of 50 if I was judging this in a beer competition. Not a bad beer, would pick it over the Miller/Bud crap but there are better IPA's out there.
